Fairfax County Jail Roster Reality

Fairfax County does not publish an official public online jail roster on the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office website. The Sheriff's pages describe the Adult Detention Center, video visits, mail, reentry programs, FOIA, and facility operations, but they do not provide a searchable list of current inmates. That changes the normal inmate records workflow. A person looking for Fairfax County jail custody should not wait for a roster update or assume that a missing web result means release.

The local custody source is the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, which is operated by Sheriff Stacey A. Kincaid's office. The ADC houses adult men and women, including newly booked arrestees, pretrial detainees, local sentenced inmates, and people awaiting release, bond, transfer, or court action. Sentenced state prisoners from Fairfax move into the Virginia Department of Corrections locator after transfer. Federal and immigration cases use separate BOP, U.S. Marshals, or ICE channels.

Locate Fairfax County Inmates

Because the county does not expose a roster form, the strongest Fairfax County inmate records search starts with identity details and then moves through documented access channels. Use the person's full legal name, date of birth, spelling variants, arrest date, arresting agency, and any court case number. If a family member has only a nickname or partial name, collect more detail before calling. Staff can search more accurately when the name is not common and the date range is narrow.

Virginia VINE is a notification tool, not a full booking-record database. It can help with release alerts and custody status, but it does not replace the ADC phone line or a court record. Court records also have a different role. They show the charge filed in court after an arrest, while jail records show custody and booking status.

Fairfax County Search Fields

The Fairfax County jail records process has no public roster form to inventory. The practical search fields are the facts a caller provides to the ADC and the fields used by fallback systems such as VINE and VADOC. Since Fairfax County does not publish a public inmate profile page, no one should describe local roster entries as if they display charges, bond, housing, or mugshots online. Some details may exist in jail booking records, court files, VINE notices, or agency records. Public copies may be limited by Virginia law, safety rules, juvenile-record limits, or law-enforcement exemptions.

County State Federal Custody

A Fairfax County arrest can touch more than one records system. The county jail handles booking, classification, local custody, video visiting, mail, and short local sentences. Booking Process in Fairfax County

Personal visits at the Fairfax ADC are video-based. The Sheriff's video-visitation page states that general-population inmates authorized for visitation may have one video visit per day in 15- or 30-minute increments. Remote visits cost 10 cents per minute. On-site video visits through an ADC lobby kiosk are free. Professional visits follow separate credential rules and may be in person or by video.

Attorneys must show a current Virginia Bar card and valid driver's license for professional visits. Other professional visitors may need advance approval. Personal visitors should not assume contact visits are available.

Fairfax uses Smart Communications for many inmate communications. Personal mail for the ADC and AIB is routed to Smart Communications/FXCOADC, Inmate Name/Inmate Number, P.O. Box 9128, Seminole, FL 33775-9128. Legal and professional mail still goes to the ADC and must be clearly marked as Legal Mail. Publications must come by USPS directly from a publisher or third-party retailer and be addressed to the inmate at the ADC.

Inmates cannot receive incoming calls. Verified emergency messages may be delivered through official channels. Request Fairfax Booking Records

The Sheriff's FOIA page gives the formal fallback for booking-related records that are not available by phone or portal. The office may charge reasonable actual costs and may require a deposit if the estimated cost exceeds $200.

Police records use a separate Fairfax County Police VFOIA route, and court files use the relevant court clerk.
